It is a tragedy when someone is killed in a Texas car crash, but it is worse yet when the driver who caused the crash leaves the scene of the accident. When a fatal car accident happens, it can be devastating for family members to know that the person who caused their relative's death is out there and has never been held responsible. Not every fatal accident ends with a criminal conviction, but many family members still want to hold reckless driver's accountable by filing wrongful death lawsuits.
Sadly, for the family of a 49-year-old woman and her teenage son, the driver and passenger apparently responsible for an accident that left the mother dead and the son seriously injured fled the crash. While they left their truck behind and it is only a matter of time before police find them, the family is likely to be wondering who was behind the wheel.
The accident happened early last week just north of Houston. The mother and her son were in a Toyota Corolla when a Chevrolet pickup truck smashed into their car. It is believed that the men in the pickup were speeding at the time of the crash, which caused them to lose control of the truck as they tried to round a bend. It was in the moment that they lost control that they smashed into the mother and son.
The teenager was found critically injured, and it is unknown whether he is expected to survive his injuries.
As more information emerges, including the identities of the men in the truck, this family can start to make decisions about whether to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
